Defence

The area of defence often uses a combination of technical ceramic properties that enable it to meet very specific requirements and determine the operational capabilities of the equipment:

  • Mechanical strength, high level of hardness and light weight for armour plating, and even transparency for reinforced glazing
  • Electrical insulation and mechanical strength for distributors
  • Optical transparency, infra-red, electromagnetic, combined with thermo-mechanical strength and abrasion resistance for on-board windows.

Applications / Constraints

  • Light ballistic protection for the infantry, land vehicles and aircraft
  • High-speed missile seekers, guided bombs and drones
  • On-board optronic equipment
  • Lighters for weapons systems
  • Designation lasers
